How do I prepare for my appointment?

•     • Please check in 5-10 minutes early.


•     • We require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule, so please call us if you are unable to keep this appointment. All cancellations with less than 24 hours notice will pay a fee.


•     • Please have something cold & sweet to drink 20-30 minutes before you get to the office to help get the baby moving during the ultrasound. Ice water and a protein snack will work if you are diabetic.


•     • Avoid a heavy meal in favor of a light snack before the scan because it may put the baby to sleep.


•     • Drink plenty of water even several days before your appointment.


•     • Please bring a valid photo ID.

What is the difference between 2D, 3D and 4D?

2D is the standard type of ultrasound. This type of ultrasound is recommended for babies that are 20 weeks or younger. We use this type for gender determination.

3D is the type of ultrasound that captures a clear image of the baby's features. It is recommended to do 3D imaging later in pregnancy when the baby has more fat on their face.

4D is simply 3D ultrasound captured live in motion. This mode of imaging allows you to capture the baby's movement and activity in 3D. You may be able to see the baby smile, yawn, play with it's hands and feet, etc. We take clips/videos to send to your phone.

Is Ultrasound Imaging safe?

Ultrasounds have been used for over 40 years and according to the FDA, there have been no proven side effects from its proper use. There is no radiation involved when using the sonography.

When is the best time to get the 3D/4D done?

It really depends on when you wish to see your baby. Earlier in your pregnancy you can see more of the whole body and often the baby is moving quite a bit. Mid pregnancy the baby is growing and filling out and you are able to better see facial features. Later pregnancy will show a full-faced baby and chubby hands and feet, but not usually in the same frame as they are larger now unless of course they have the hand or foot in their face.

Many mothers like coming in twice, early on, 14-26 weeks, when they can see the baby as a whole, and then again between 28-34 weeks when your baby develops more fat and gets a more defined face. After 34 weeks it becomes more and more difficult to obtain good pictures since the baby is running out of room, however all babies are different and we have been successful later in the pregnancy.

When is the earliest you can see the gender and what happens if we are unable to see it?

Our sonographers are trained to determine gender and our accuracy rate is very high. We have accurately been able to determine the gender as early as 14 weeks. If for whatever reason we cannot, then we invite you back for a complimentary return visit. If you do not wish to see the gender, then we will be sure to keep it hidden to preserve your surprise.

Do I need a release form signed by my doctor?

We do not require a release form by your doctor for our elective ultrasound exams. However, we do insist that you are under the care of a doctor or midwife. You will need to sign our waiver with your healthcare provider's information. It is recommended but NOT required to have a report of your diagnostic ultrasound exams.
